Gintautas Vaitoska curriculum vitae

1960 – born in Telsiai, Lithuania; my father was a doctor and my mother ran a book shop.

1978 – graduated from gymnasium.

1978 – 1986 – studies at the Kaunas Medical Institute and Vilnius University Medical school, obtaining a medical doctor degree with a specialization in neurology and psychiatry.

1984 – married Daiva, who was also a medical student. In 1985 our daughter Agnes was born.

1986 – 1992 – practicing neurology and psychotherapy at the Vilnius Outpatient Clinic for Students and Adolescents.

Since 1990 – cooperation with the emerging Lithuanian Family Center at the Bishops Conference.

1992 – 1995 – studies at the John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and Family in Washington, D.C., (7 semesters), obtaining a Master of Theological Studies degree.

1995 – internship at the Georgetown Family Center in family psychiatry.

1996 – 1999 – in Lithuania, practicing psychotherapy at the Vilnius Archdiocese Family Center, director of the center for one year (marriage preparation programs, chastity education etc.), teaching at the Vilnius St. Joseph Seminary.

1999 – 2003 studies at the International Theological Institute for Studies on Marriage and the Family in Gaming, Austria, graduating with a Licentiate in Sacred Theology with the specialization in Marriage and Family. Thesis topic: On the Relation between Contraception and the Hardness of Heart.

2000 – 2008 – Assistant Professor of Psychology and Pastoral Theology at the ITI. Courses taught: Psychology of the Couple, Marital Chastity and Communication, Premarital Chastity and Friendship, Introduction to Bioethics, Homosexuality and Gender Issues, Child Development and Personality Formation, Psychiatry and Christianity.

2005 – 2008 – in spring semester, part time teaching at the Vilnius St. Joseph seminary, involved in renewing marriage preparation programs in Lithuania, also with chastity education programs. A member of the Family Council at the Lithuanian Bishop’s Conference.

My wife is a cardiologist, and daughter is studying journalism at Vilnius University.
