Our Institute
possesses a modest research library of about 15,000 volumes,
steadily growing. Most volumes are in English and German, but sizable numbers of volumes in French, Latin, Greek, and Italian are also on the shelves. There are
also several dozen titles in Slavic languages, especially Ukrainian
and Polish.
The majority of our holdings are in the areas of philosophy
and theology, but we have many important titles in the areas
of European and American history, sociology, psychology, economics,
the natural sciences, and literature.
We are especially proud of our reference
book section, which includes the Patrologia
Latina and Patrologia
Graeca, Corpus Christianorum and Sources
Chrétiennes series, critical editions of the works of Bernard, Albert the
Great, Thomas Aquinas, Bonaventure, Duns Scotus, and William
of Ockham, the Acta Apostolicae Sedis, the Insegnamenti of
John Paul II, and other important research tools, as well as
collections of major theological journals.
The entire library is organized according to the Library of
Congress (LOC) system. Books are labeled with numbers on
the outside for location and with barcodes on the inside for
checking out, and their records are stored in a database that
can be accessed by students and faculty on all computers hooked
up to the library network.
